Gaoyou Clean Water project

A Child's Right (ACR) is a nonprofit 503 (c) charitable relief agency dedicated to changing the lives of vulnerable children around the world by providing clean and safe drinking water to the facilities in which they live. Through an agreement with the China Center of Adoption Affairs and the China Social Work Association under the Ministry of Civil Affairs, they are undertaking a 5 year project to provide 400 orphanages throughout China safe drinking water for all of their orphaned and abandoned children.

In February 2007 Rebecca Field and I, adoptive parents of children from Gaoyou, started raising funds for ACR to install a clean drinking water system in the Gaoyou Children's Welfare Institution. The support from the Gaoyou Families was immediate, and we had raised the $3,500 needed in just a few days. A warm thank you to everyone who was able to contribute.

Rebecca and I will be traveling to Gaoyou in September '08 to help with the installation. We'll post details here about our trip here.

If there is another CWI that is close to your heart please consider starting a fundraising campaign of your own to bring clean water to these at risk children.

  • Installation of a professional, top-tier water purification system. ACR uses water purification technology that includes three filtration/purification systems--a 5 micron filter to get rid of dirt and sediment, an activated carbon filter to get rid of bad tastes and smells, and a UV water purification system to eradicate all bacteria, viruses and pathogens in the water. The water purification systems also include a system safeguard: a solenoid valve that shuts down the system during power outages and brownouts so no unsafe water will ever reach a child 5 years of maintenance and supplies to keep the clean water flowing.
  • Provide spare parts and professional maintenance for five years after each system is installed.
  • Perform water-quality testing every six months for five years after each system is installed.
